Myanmar established diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1975. Last August, a Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership was established between the two countries during a state visit by Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to Myanmar.
Meanwhile, bilateral trade between the two countries hit $592 million, with $103 million export values while its import value took $489 million as of January in current 2017-2018 fiscal year, according to the Commerce Ministry. Myanmar’s trade with Vietnam totalled to over $494 million in the last 2016-2017 fiscal year.
