“As I predicted all along, Obamacare has been struck down as an UNCONSTITUTIONAL disaster!” Trump tweeted. “Now Congress must pass a STRONG law that provides GREAT healthcare and protects pre-existing conditions.”
When former President Barack Obama brought it he called the legislation “historic”. “It is fitting that Congress passed this historic legislation this week for as we mark the turning of spring, we also mark a new season in America. In a few moments when I sign this bill, all of the overheated rhetoric over reform will finally confront the reality of reform”, said Obama.
But Trump was dead against it. He made it a point to criticize it in his campaigns before Presidential election. “Together we’re going to deliver real change that once again puts America first. That begins with immediately repealing and replacing the disaster known as Obamacare”, Trump thundered in rallies.
The US District Judge Reed O’Connor ruled that last year’s tax cut bill knocked the constitutional foundation from under “Obamacare” by eliminating a penalty for not having coverage. The rest of the law cannot be separated from that provision and is therefore invalid, he wrote.
Supporters of the law immediately said they would appeal. The White House while welcoming the court ruling said that the law remains in place while appeals proceed.
