He interacted with inspector general Rajan Bargotra, commander, coast guard region (east) and the ship’s crew.
“This visit will go a long way in fostering inter operability between the two maritime forces. The governor general was accompanied with Harinder Sidhu, Australian high commissioner to India and A M Gondane, Indian high commissioner to Australia,” the statement added.
The cooperation between the ICG and Australian Border Force (ABF) started in 2002 when Australia participated in a maritime search and rescue conference hosted by Indian Coast Guard and the cooperation has got strengthened over the years between the two countries.
ICG ship Sankalp undertook maiden goodwill visit to Darwin, Australia in December 2014 as part of international cooperation. Australian Border Force ship Ocean Shield visited Chennai in May 2017 furthering the goodwill and professional relationship between the two maritime forces.
Much recently, ICGS Vaibhav visited Darwin, Australia from 21 to 25 February this year for fostering inter operability between the two maritime forces.
