Kim’s meeting with Xi Jinping is considered a major move to reinforce China’s role in the North Korean denuclearisation. As China has always stood by its side , N Korea wants it to do the same while it negotiates the thorny road ahead . Moreover, the bilateral talks is a veiled message to the US that assertive role will not work with North Korea as it still holds China as a close ally.
Compulsions of China
For China Kim’s concurrent visits are reassurance that it still remains North Korea’s number one ally. China’s interest in further strengthening relations with N.Korea is to restrict USA’s possible role in its courtyard . China fears that if N Korea is lured by the US in the coming days , there will be huge American presence in N Korea . Which may tempt the US to indulge in anti-China activities from North Korean soil .
